3 different gardening questions?

Question by jama_bc: 3 different gardening questions?
Question 1: I have 2 Elisha Blues (ornamental grasses) but when we moved i had to put it in a pot and have no place in the ground to put it. The bottom “leaves” are brown/yellow. I put it in a bigger pot as i thought it was because it was in too small of a pot. Should i cut off the dead leaves?

Question 2: I have some diff. chives and the flower pods just burst. Can i plant the flowers to grow more chives? If not, what else can i do with them?

Question 3: I grow sage. One of the plants has a “branch” that has almost split off. I’m wondering if it can be rooted somehow, and if so, how do i go about it?

Thanks for all helpful answers.

Answer by Greg L
Don’t know on #1

#2 -take the pods and set them in a baggie with papertowel to dry a bit before you plant (more seeds will germinate that way)

#3-just break off the branch and dip the broken part in root tone (a powdery start aid) This has root hormone that helps the start get its root system up to speed quickly. Plant in moist soil and keep watered well.

Q&A: Random gardening questions from a noob?

Question by Justhere: Random gardening questions from a noob?
It’s my first year growing things. I currently have tomatoes, collards, broccoli, corn, and peppers growing in starter/small pots. I am thinking of planting them on the garden this week, and want some advice.

First, I am affraid that, after planted on the garden, the plants will be burned by the sun. How do I know they’re ready to be out of the pots? I’m in western NY, highest temperatures so far is 80-82.

Bugs have been making wholes to my plants…what’s the best pesticide?

In the space for the garden, some grass/weed has been growing after we moved the soil…should I treat that with something before planting? What can I use to get rid of grass/weeds that won’t hurt the plants I want to put in?

They should be planted in rows, different rows for each kind of plant, right? I’m such a noob :(

I am looking at more info online, but just want to see if you guys have any advice for me. Thanks!
I am not having the soil examined, but what I’ve done is, on top of the garden bed I created in the backyard, I’ve mixed about 4 bags of gardening soil with plant feed. This should be good enough to give my plants what they need, even if the original soil wasn’t that good to begin with, right?

Question by Booth: Tea, and Organics, also hydroponic gardening questions?
I live in Pennsylvania. I was wondering if anyone knows if tea can be grown and also survive in PA so that i don’t have to buy seeds every year? Also anybody know any informative, yet simple to understand hydroponic gardening tips? Things like pumpkins and possibly tea I will grow outside, but tomatoes, carrots, etc I want to grow hydroponically.
Also if anyone knows of good organic seed websites, for tea especially please post a link or at least tell me the website. Thank You.

Question by : gardening questions..?
to make flowers/plants/ grow faster dontyou prune them more often? also where exactly should you cut them?

Best answer:

Answer by Freedom
Pruning does not make plants grow faster. It makes them grow bushier rather than long and leggy.
If you are pruning a plant that flowers, pinch out the growing tip at the end of the branch that wil flower. It will make the plant shoot more branches out further down the branch.
